Here are a number of useful links to organisations who provide training and development courses, information and advice.

The University is also a member of many of the organisations below, and this provides benefits including reduced costs for some courses and learning materials.

  • AUA (Association of University Administrators) The AUA is the professional body for higher education administrators and managers in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. Joining AUA will help your career in HE by providing opportunities for your professional development, keeping you informed of current issues, sharing best practice and formally recognising your commitment to your Professional Development through the AUA Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Practice.
  • The Higher Education Academy.  The Higher Education Academy works with the UK higher education community to enhance the student experience. The Academy is a repository for knowledge, practice and policy related to the student experience in higher education as well as overseeing HE practitioner CPD standards and qualifications.  Essential for all academic staff in particular.
  • CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development). The CIPD is the professional body for those involved in the management and development of people.
  • OCSLD (Oxford Centre for Staff and Learning Development).   Part of Oxford Brookes University this centre offers consultancy to Higher Education institutions, and specialises in workshops and seminars linked to teaching and learning methods.
  • SEDA (Staff and Educational Development Association) The professional association for staff and educational developers in the UK, promoting innovation and good practice in Higher Education.
  • The Equality Challenge Unit works to promote equal opportunities in higher education. We work in partnership with universities and colleges of higher education, unions, and agencies across the country.
  • The Leadership Foundation was created in late 2003 and was formally launched in March 2004 and draws on the best existing programmes and commissions new material in order to offer world-class development in leadership governance and management to current and future leaders within higher education institutions.
  • The Work Foundation is the UK’s leading evidence-based research and management consultancy. The Work Foundation exists to inspire and deliver improvements to performance through improving the quality of working life
  • Southern England Consortium for Credit Accumulation and Transfer, formed in 1985, is the oldest higher education consortium for credit accumulation and transfer (CATS) in the United Kingdom. Its membership includes over 25% of universities and colleges funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).
