Previous Development Leave projects:
The University offers a Development Leave scheme which invites applications annually from any staff member. Up to approximately ten applications per year are supported, primarily by enabling staff to undertake activity aimed at investigating and developing new methods of working, curriculum development, project related activity or other innovation designed to support our University activities.
The scheme provides funding either to provide cover to release staff from their regular duties (e.g. paying sessional teaching staff costs) or the costs associated with a project based activity for no more than one term. Staff applying must have been in post for three years or more
What kind of activities will be supported?
The guidance notes give particular details but some examples are:
- Develop a new area of subject knowledge
- Acquire knowledge of recent developments in professional practice
-
whether related to academic practice or central professional services - Develop new skills in educational methods
- Develop new and improved support systems, for example by visiting other institutions or researching options outside the sector
- Develop team-based working and learning designed to bring about improvements in service delivery
Preference will be given to proposals which are in line with University and faculty/departmental strategic priorities, for example on themes such as diversity and equality or employer engagement initiatives.
All recipients of Development Leave are required to disseminate the results of their work, both to their departments and, where appropriate, to a wider audience, through taking part in Faculty or University staff development events.
Examples of previous Development Leave projects can be found in the box to the right.
