Staff Sport and Exercise

We like to consider that we are here for all the whole University community and that includes staff. The University, along with members of staff, offer classes and clubs that you can take advantage of, before, after or during the working day.

The Sports Centre

There are a variety of classes available to members of staff at the university. Please visit the Sport Centre webpage for more details on the classes.

The Sport Centre has exclusive rates available for members of staff and family members of the University.  Please visit http://www.canterbury.ac.uk/fitness to find out what is available to you.

Canterbury Campus

Staff Badminton play at university Sports Centre from 5:30-7:30 on Monday evenings. Don’t worry if you can’t start at 5:30, you can join in at any time.

You will need to register with the Sports Centre. Basic bronze membership is 5 for a year and only takes 10 minutes to complete the membership form. Alternatively, you can join online here http://www.canterbury.ac.uk/support/fitness-centre/memberships.asp .There is no weekly charge for badminton.

We supply shuttlecocks and the Sports Centre has a couple of spare rackets. If you would like to purchase your own, Sports Direct have rackets starting from 15. We suggest that you wear comfortable sports clothing and trainers with good grip. We play short doubles matches to allow as many player combinations as possible. We can offer coaching for beginners to cover the basics and after that, the emphasis is on playing and enjoyment. Currently attendees have a range of playing levels and we welcome players of all abilities.

The Staff Cricket team play 3-4 matches during the evening over the summer.  Anyone interested in playing should contact Nick Bryant to be kept informed of upcoming fixtures.

Broadstairs Campus

There are a variety of clubs and activities on offer at Broadstairs campus including football, netball and rugby.  If you would like to become involved or to start up a new sport/ activity, contact Adem Djemil for further details.
