 Quality Update (Michaelmas 2011)

The following Quality Update outlines various developments in the University's policies and procedures for managing academic quality and standards, following the Michaelmas term Quality and Standards Committee and Academic Board meetings.

Student Handbooks

 

In June 2012 the Academic Board approved a Student Handbook Template.  This is intended to help ensure that students are aware of the services, support and policies available to them, and also to reduce the burden on programme staff, who will no longer need to spend time updating central policies for each new edition of their handbooks.  It consists of (i) a University section, the updating of which will be coordinated centrally each year to ensure that policies are kept up to date and (ii) a programme section which is completed and updated each year by programme teams.  From now on Handbooks must be submitted as supporting information for validation, which will ensure that it is of the appropriate standard.  The template and specific guidance on how this policy will be implemented is available on the Student Handbooks page.

 

External Examiner Briefing Events

 

The next External Examiner induction day will take place on 4 April 2012.  QSO will be responsible for issuing invitations to this event.  Invitations will be issued to newly approved external examiners who will begin their term of office in 2011/12, and who were unable to attend the first induction on 6 April. Relevant programme directors will be invited to participate in the institutional event, and to provide a programme-specific briefing for their new external examiners.  For more information please see the Briefing Events page.
