Sessional Academic Staff working on a paid by claim basis

Appointment

Sessional paid by claim Acdemic staff are appointed through the University "Appointment of Paid by Claim Staffing Form" PER05.

Allocation of work

The allocation of sessional work is via the VT2000 sessional hours management system.

Heads of Department, or approved programme leaders, will liaise with sessional staff over availability for work. They will then make a request for any agreement for work to be undertaken to be confirmed to the sessional staff member via the VT2000.

If approved the sessional staff will receive, via their Canterbury Christ Church email account, confirmation of the offer of work, known as a work schedule.

Please note that the work schedule is an offer of work only. There is no guarantee that all the hours offered will be available to be worked and no obligation to accept work that is offered. Payment is made only for work undertaken.

If there are any questions about what work is offered each department has a local VT2000 administrator who should be able to advise on any initial queries.

Payment

Claiming for work offered is done through the online claims system called VTS. This  accessed via the University staffnet pages or at the link below (internal to the university network only).

https://secure.canterbury.ac.uk/staffnet/staff/

A guide on how to make a VTS claim is also available.

Claims approved via VTS are automatically transferred to Payroll (subject to the monthly payroll timetable) who action payment under PAYE terms, that means with the automatic deductions for tax and national insurance. Unless the sessional staff member has elected NOT to participate in the Teachers Pension Scheme deductions will also be taken for pension scheme membership.

The VTS claims system is available around the clock and for 365 days per year meaning claims can be made at any time after the work has been done.
