Reporting Accidents, Incidents and Near Misses

It is important that staff, students and visitors report all accidents using the report form and send it or e-mail it to health.safety@canterbury.ac.uk

Significant near misses and incidents must also be notified using the report form.

Cases of occupational ill-health should be notified to Human Resources.

In addition, the head of department should also be informed.

Timely reporting is important to allow a thorough investigation to be conducted to minimise the possibility of reoccurrences and to meet our legal obligations.

Reporting a security incident

For all security queries, reporting of crime or suspicious activity, including traffic incidents contact Security or Reception as follows.

Reporting a hazard

Examples of Hazards include

  1. Defective lighting (internal or external)
  2. Trip hazards
  3. Damage to the fabric of a building
  4. Contractors working unsafely

If you identify a hazard you should not assume it has been reported. Report all hazards to the Building Warden, your line manager or supervisor, the University Health and Safety Advisor, or security staff

Alternatively, fill in the Hazard Report Form

Building or grounds maintenance issues should be reported to Estates using the on-line facility of reporting directly to the Estates department www.canterbury.ac.uk/support/estates/, except at Salomons where Reception should be called.
