Building Wardens and Responsible Persons
For each University building there is a Responsible Person who has oversight of the safe keeping of the building. The Responsible Person is particularly concerned with matters relating to fire safety, although all matters concerned with general health and safety matters are also important.
University buildings are also looked after by a Building Warden, who usually works within the building. The Building Warden has a day to day concern with ensuring that the building is kept safe, and will make reports to the appropriate departments when they notice that something is amiss. In addition, the Building Warden may raise a matter with someone in the building with a view to reaching a solution.
The Building Wardens receive training for their role, and meet termly in a Forum to discuss matters of common interest.
The arrangements are an important means of helping to keep the University a safe and enjoyable place to work and study. All members of staff can assist the process by giving support to the Building Wardens in the buildings in which they work.
The arrangements are overseen by the Strategic Director (Resources)
