The Estates and Infrastructure has invested both resources and capital to provide a comprehensive Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system. The provider of this system is Planon FM http://www.planonsoftware.com/uk/. The system is integrated with building plans and drawings from the AutoCAD system http://www.autodesk.co.uk and is related to all aspects of Estates Management including;
- Reactive Maintenance Helpdesk & Work Order
- Planned Prevention Maintenance (An essential part of the departments remit to insure optimum performance of building and services)
- Space Management
- Inventory Management
- Stock Control
- Budget Management
- Contact Management

Since the implementation of CAFM almost all of the University building plans have been either transferred from paper drawings archives or re-measured. This has enabled easier access and reference of drawings by Estates staff.

Through integrating Planon with existing Estates
and Infrastructure well honed procedures
and practices, it enables the department to provide best of class
business processes not constrained by distance or bricks and mortar.
