Special IT requirements and special setups
The University has provided a range of software and facilities
to assist students requiring assistance in using computers. The following list
indicates what is available, and where on the Canterbury campus
(unless otherwise stated):
Software
- Lunar Plus - magnifying and read-back software for
visually impaired users:
one workstation in Eg16 (Student Study Support Unit -SSSU); three workstations in Library Open Access Area
- Text Help - assists word processing for dyslexic and
other users:
all workstations in Eg16 (SSSU)
- Inspirations - mind-mapping software:
Eg16 (SSSU), Of12 and OF15
- The Library has one machine by the Enquiry Desk with
magnifying software for accessing the Library Catalogue.
- A combination of Braille transcription software for text and music, JAWS screen-reading software, an A3 scanner, and a Braille embosser is available in Rf30. To get to Rf30, go into Rf31, next to the first floor lift door and turn immediately left. Rf30 is in the next corner on your left. If you require documents embossed in Braille, or assistance in using the software and setup contact the Help Desk.
Adjustable height desks and other equipment
- Ramsey: Rg36 station 7, (if help required, call into the IS Help Desk)
- Augustine House has height adjustable desks available on each level.
- Broadstairs Learning Centre has two adjustable height desks
- Eg16 (SSSU) has one adjustable height desk, two MS ergonomic keyboards, and all workstations have headphones.
