Imaging Science

Optics and imaging research is being applied to measurements on living organisms and their environment. The work is led by Dr David Andrews, who has wide experience in applied optics, in particular in areas of holography and laser Doppler velocimetry (LDV). One project involves he use of laser shearography to enhance the visibility of scale insects on leaves, so their movements can be tracked by computer. Another project uses LDV to measure the flow patterns of water around aquatic snails.
