Career Opportunities
The interdisciplinary nature of this programme is ideal for those wishing to pursue a career in teaching in schools and colleges, or working for the increasing number of employers who require such a background in a wide area science. Students who successfully complete the degree may also wish to opt for postgraduate study (MSc./PhD.)
Year 1 (Level 4)
In the first year, students will be given a general foundation in the sciences which will prepare them for the more specialist modules at levels 5 and 6. Modules studied will include Variety of Life; Core Science; Introduction to Environmental Systems and The Organism and its Environment plus Microbiology and Cell Culture
Year 2 (Level 5)
At level 5, students take the compulsory modules: Control Systems 1; Molecular Biology; Chemistry; The Earth as a Planetary System and Evolution and choose a further module from a wide range of options, including Control Systems 2; Reproduction and Development; Anatomy and Physiology and Animal Care and Behaviour.
Year 3 (Level 6)
At level 6, students must take Ionising Radiations and Individual study and choose four from a range of modules including Pests, Parasites and Pathogens; Introduction to Bioinformatics; Energy Society and Environments; Practical Ecology; Animal Health and Welfare; Pollution; Sense and Perception and Ecology and Conservation.
At Levels 5 and 6, students will be able to discuss an appropriate programme of study with their tutors.
For those without appropriate entry qualifications, Integrated Science may be taken as a four year degree, beginning with the one year full-time Science Foundation.
