Welcome to the Science Alumni Page

We recently asked some of our graduates to say a few words to let us know what they are doing in the world of work. Here is what some of them had to say:

Tony Manning

BSc Biosciences - Graduated 2005.

After completing my Biosciences degree I worked for a small pharmaceutical company in Sittingbourne as a Formulation Scientist researching and developing new medicines and manufacturing drugs for clinical trials. After just over a year I started to look around for a new challenge and now work for Pfizer in Sandwich as a Formulation Scientist in their Drug Safety Research and Development department.

Many thanks for everything that Christ Church did for my education, without it I certainly wouldn't be where I am now.

James Finch

Policy Manager (Improvement) Kent Fire & Rescue Service

I did the environmental science BSc, followed by the Tourism and Environmental Management MSc. In terms of where I am now, I work for Kent Fire & Rescue Service, where I have been for the last four and a bit years. My role is around performance improvement, review and service development for the Authority. I am currently working with colleagues to redevelop our environmental management/climate change strategy, which means for the this first time since I left university I get to use words like 'anthropogenic' in public again.

I am also interested in how the fire & rescue service can attract graduates into the organisation, as we are looking for new ways to develop the organisation using different skills to the traditional 'start at the bottom and work your way up' type approach. I am not a fire-fighter, and have no intention of ever being one, but there are lots of different roles here in relation to financial management, HR, scientific research, media relations, etc which I think we could market to alumni from Christ Church much more effectively.

Heather Jackson

After working for some years at Pfizer in the manufacturing field I'm now working in the nuclear industry about which little can be said for security reasons.

Philippa Greysmith

Hi, I'm a police officer now and have been for ten years now, had some great laughs earned lots of money at the G8 summit, and have lots of stories to tell.

I still live in the area never left after University. I own a house in a local seaside town, and am quite happy for people to e-mail me
