Post Graduate Certificate in Education
Enhance your BA/BSc Single or Joint/Combined Honours Degree with the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
...the flexible route into teaching
Are you......
-
Keen to study at University and thinking about teaching as a possible future career?
But are you perhaps also......
-
Unsure whether you definitely want to be a teacher?
-
Keen to keep all your options open for as long as possible?
If so, a BA/BSc Degree at Canterbury could be the answer.
Why Choose the BA / BSc + PGCE Route?
The BA / BSc + PGCE is the traditional route through which to qualify as a secondary school teacher.
The BA / BSc degree also provides a route for future primary teachers who wish to study at degree level, before taking the primary PGCE.
Under current legislation, government bursaries of £6000 are provided for students taking the PGCE course.
The Student Associates Scheme enables students to gain practical experience in schools during the Second or Third years of their degree. A bursary of £40 per day is currently paid for each day in school. Credits gained contribute to the award of qualified teacher status through the PGCE.
If, at the end of your degree course, you decide that you do not wish to become a teacher, your degree will provide access to a range of other careers.
The BA/BSc Degree plus PGCE route is illustrated in the diagram below, and can be followed in several subjects, including Applied Physical Sciences, Biosciences, Environmental Biology, Geography, Geographic Information for Environmental Management and Science of the Environment.
* For most students one Level equals one year.
