Courses
Special entrance requirements
Whilst an 'A' level in a relevant subject within the Social Sciences (e.g., Sociology, Politics, Psychology) is desirable, the Department does not stipulate particular A level subjects for entry to the programme. Applications are welcome from students presently undertaking Access courses or who have other non-standard backgrounds.
Assessment
Types of assessment are varied, including traditional essays, examinations, presentations, portfolios and multiple-choice, short-answer papers. Formal examinations account for approximately one third of assessment.
Employment Opportunities
Our graduates have entered a variety of careers, notably the caring professions (teaching, social work, health professions) and the civil service, The programme gives a good understanding of social situations and interpersonal skills necessary to deal with them, a dimension which has often been commented on favourably by employers. Significant numbers of students go on to undertake a higher degree or further training at this University or elsewhere.
