Ethics Panels

Ethics and Research and Development (R&D) Information for Staff and Students/Trainees

If Staff or students/trainees in the Department of Applied Psychology are undertaking research which involves human participants they must receive ethics approval prior to beginning data collection for nearly all projects. Most research will need to be approved either by the Salomons Campus Ethics Panel or if the research is within the NHS by an NHS ethics panel.

Salomons Campus Ethics Committee

The ethics committee on the Salomons campus meets throughout the year. Please contact Claire Fullalove on 01892 507575 to schedule an ethics application submission review date. Alternatively, the Chair of the Salomons campus ethics panel is Professor Margie Callanan who can be contacted on 01892 507 672.

NHS Ethics and R&D

If your research requires NHS ethics approval you will need to apply through the Integrated Research Application System (IRAS) website: www.myresearchproject.org.uk|. The IRAS website contains information about completing the online ethics application as well as information about completing the R&D application, which is required of all research undertaken in the NHS. You can use the IRAS application for both single site projects (LREC) and multisite projects (MREC).

Prior to undertaking any research in an NHS trust it is highly advisable to directly contact the trust's R&D department to ascertain the feasibility of your research project within a particular trust.

Additional Information

For current Applied Psychology Department students/trainees and staff additional information about research ethics is available on Blackboard.
