I am the Programme Director for the BSc Policing (Hons) in-service degree at Canterbury Christ Church University. This degree is specifically aimed at serving police officers, members of police staff and Special Constables. As well as teaching, I have responsibility for the day to day management of this Programme. My academic background is varied with a BSc (Hons) in Criminology & Criminal Justice and an MSc in Social Research Studies. I am currently studying my PhD part-time. I have a keen interest in both designing and conducting research in a policing context. I have been lucky to have spent 13 years of my professional life working as a Strategic Researcher for the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS). I was involved in various action research and smale scale bespoke projects tailored to business need. As well as conducting field work and analysis, I also lead on project managing large scale research for both internal and external commissions. Two key points I took away from working for a large organisation in a research capacity was to: ensure that research knowledge is transparent and transferable, so that the strategic and operational implications of the research findings are delivered to internal policy/decision makers, and, to ensure that pracititioners voices are heard within the narrative also to bring the operational experience to the table. This learning has lead me to my research focus for my PhD which is aimed to capture police officer students' experiences of using their knowledge gained from their degree, in the work place.
