Educational Visits

We provide an opportunity for students from schools and colleges to experience science in real-life settings.

Our team of highly-skilled sport scientists work to help athletes achieve their optimum performance. Our SportsLab educational visits provide a unique and interactive learning environment designed to enhance students’ knowledge and understanding. Educational visits portray the interdisciplinary aspects of sport science and aim to inspire young people to be inquisitive and reflective whilst they learn.

The academic content of visits can be adapted in order to deliver high quality information appropriate for different levels and programmes of study. Educational Visits are priced at £80 per hour. Schools and colleges can select either a laboratory-based or field-based visit, or a combination of the two. You can find out more by downloading our educational visit guides on the right hand side of the page. A standard visit is typically 90 minutes in duration to ensure adequate opportunities for participation and learning.

The primary aims of our educational visits are:

  • To provide opportunities for students to experience a range of physiological tests in a stimulating learning environment. Previous research suggests that educational visits proved useful to further classroom discussions and information retention for coursework and exams.
  • To compare the advantages and disadvantages of laboratory based versus/and field based physiological testing. Many BTEC, GCSE and A-Level Sport and Physical Education courses require students to identify and understand this information. Our educational visits can portray this information in a unique and specific learning environment, enhancing students’ learning and enjoyment of the subject area.
  • To provide the students with an invaluable introduction into studying in a higher education environment and provide an insight into the life as a sport science undergraduate student at Canterbury Christ Church University.

For more information regarding specific activities within the educational visits, please do not hesitate to contact us. The visits can be tailored to satisfy individual or group needs. A tour of the campus and facilities can usually be arranged and provided by a member of staff from the Admissions Department. Students can bring a packed lunch or purchase lunch in the University’s Food Court under supervision of their school teacher/staff member of school or college.
