Professional Placement Year

A year in industry offers you the opportunity to explore a role in an organisation over a 6 – 12 month period. You will complete your year in industry in your third year, after your first two years of study and then return to complete your fourth and final year.

Many students find that completing a year in industry significantly enhances their employability when they come to graduate, and many students are offered employment with their work placement organisation upon graduation.

While it is your responsibility to find a placement, there is dedicated support on offer to you from the Business School to help you find a placement and prepare for your year in industry. We will help you to identify suitable opportunities, make applications and prepare for interviews, secure a role, and monitor and support you during your placement. The school has strong links with industry in Kent, as well as other national and international organisations.

Available for all Business School students

A year in industry is available to all undergraduate students studying a Business School programme, including single and combined honours.

Previous students have worked at companies such as Sainsbury’s, Enterprise Rent-a-car, The Royal Automobile Club, COTY and many more. You can read about our students' experiences by reading our student work placement profiles.
