Jeanette Cohen (1803 – 1867)
Daughter of Solomon Cohen and Hannah Samuel.
Married David Salomons in 1825. They were married by the Chief Rabbi, Dr Solomon Hirschel, at Grove House, Canonbury.
Jeanette was related to Moses Montefiore and the Rothschilds, other prominent members of the Jewish community, who gave support to David Salomons' work, as did the Cohen family themselves.
Jeanette travelled widely with David Salomons while young, but suffered from ill health from about 1855 and was unable to share her husband's public duties. Her sister, Harriet Wagg, stepped in to help host events when David was Lord Mayor.
She died aged 64 – before David was made a baronet – and is buried in the Jewish Cemetery at West Ham.
Jeanette and David Salomons had no children.
