Jacob Montefiore was one of the pioneers of South Australia and owned part of the land on which Adelaide was built. There are letters in the Salomons collection from Jacob and Justina in Australia to Emma.

Married Philip Salomons in 1850, when he was 54 and she was only 17.

Mother of David Lionel Salomons, Laura Matilda, Stella and Philip. Their last child, Philip, died in infancy.

It has been suggested that Emma was the model for Miriam in Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel, The Marble Faun .

Emma died aged 26 and is buried at West Ham Cemetery .
