Hello and welcome!
You might've seen us at Fresher's, or at an orientation. Maybe you picked up a copy of The Grapevine, or saw one of our campaigns in action -- however you found us, though, we're really glad you're here!
Sustainable development, environmental awareness and social responsibility are a big deal at Canterbury Christ Church University. You might not be aware, but Sustainability is one of the five huge goals in our strategic plan, and we've been doing a lot of work behind the scenes to make our university a better, more energy-efficient, more environmentally-conscious and more sustainable place to study and work.
Not everything we do, however, is behind the scenes. We've got a lot of projects, large and small, that staff and students all across the university, and across all campuses, are getting involved with -- and we'd love you to join us!
The Honeycomb Project
There are a wealth of different ways you can get involved with sustainability and do your bit, from joining working groups and focus groups, to greening your office space, to helping us publicise news and events. You can apply for funding to embed sustainability within your curriculum, blog about hot topics and experiences you’ve had, adopt a planter or an allotment on campus to grow your own vegetables, advocate sustainability to your colleagues or volunteer in the wider community. And these are just a few of the opportunities available.
The Honeycomb Project aims to capture these experiences and
recognise them as a university. Open to both staff and students,
there's no work involved, you just need to get in touch and tell us
what you're doing and we can register you on the project. We can
also, if you would like us to, direct you to other opportunities you
might be interested in.
Email us to sign up and we'll go from there!

The Grapevine is our way of reaching staff and students all across the university. It's the best place to go to find out all about current events and developments, and you can even choose how you read it! Find out more here!
We have a blog too!
If you'd rather get your updates and information in a bite-sized and more visual format, you can subscribe to our blog to get updates by email, with lots of big glossy photos and good news stories. You can find that here!
If you want to join us on our journey to a healthier and more sustainable future, here are some of the things that you can get involved in:
The SCN is the foundation upon which all our communication and engagement activities are built. Everyone who is interested in getting involved, staying informed or just showing their support becomes a member of our Sustainability Communications Network. Find out more here!
‘Christ Church Bioversity’ involves the stewardship of nature across our campus network. In Canterbury if focuses on the creation of a unique identity and sense of place based on our central location in the Canterbury UNESCO World Heritage Site. Find out more here!
As you can imagine, a University uses a lot of energy in the day to day running, across teaching buildings, accommodation, professional services departments and all the rest. As such, we're committed to trying to use that energy as responsibly and efficiently as we can, and so we've got a Carbon Management Team dedicated just that! Find out more here!
So, is this everything?
Not even close! You can get a short and sweet overview of some of our individual projects by looking at the Case Studies page, or find out about more of our projects, plans and developments, including recycling, biodiversity, Fairtrade and sustainable transport under our What We Are Doing tab on the left hand menu, and if you'd like to get involved with any of those, you absolutely can! To find out more about any of these opportunities, you can just drop us an email at email@example.com
