Environmental Champions

remainsIn order to facilitate the roll out of the University's Sustainable Development policies and initiatives each department has been asked to nominate an 'Environmental Champion’. The roles of these champions are to raise awareness within their own departments, and also to help implement any environmental changes that the University wishes to make (e.g. advising on best location of recycling bins as part of the new waste and recycling contract). Champions will be supported in this work by the Sustainable Development Committee and its sub-groups.

Champions will work closely with their Head of Department (NB – in some Departments, with no nominee, the roles provided by champions has been retained by the Head) to ensure that University level initiatives are implemented locally and also to develop department level audits and action plans for sustainability (you can download some examples of action plans from this website).

Champions are also encouraged to engage in cross-department initiatives and develop focused initiatives of their own by working in collaboration.

If you are interested in becoming a champion, please check with your Head of Department and if they are in agreement contact Peter Vujakovic, Chair of the Sustainable Development Committee. While the expectation is that all Departments will have one champion in place, there is not reason why small teams of interested staff might not work together on department level initiatives.
