What is Green Impact?

Green Impact is an environmental accreditation scheme with a competitive streak that empowers teams of staff and students to make changes in their workplace from a grass roots level. Teams use a bespoke workbook to make changes in four key areas:

·         Waste

·         Transport

·         Procurement

·         Energy

Tasks can include anything from keeping pot plants to completing energy audits of their workplaces. At the end of the program staff are given awards for their achievements; either Bronze, Silver or Gold depending on how many criteria from the workbook they have completed. There are further awards for the most innovative ideas, environmental heroes and best energy-saving idea.

The Green Impact Story

Green Impact started as a pilot scheme at the University of Bristol in 2008/9 and amongst other things they achieved the following in their teams:

·        100% have energy awareness stickers in their offices

·        87% have identified ten main greening opportunities

·        76% have inducted all new staff on environmental issues

The project was then rolled out 22 other universities 300 departments took part nationwide involving 15,000 staff. This year 36 universities and colleges are involved and Christ Church is one of them!

Last year (2010/11) Christ Church had 12 teams.  This year (2011/12) we want at least double this number. So make a team, sign up and get started!
