One of the central aims of the Augustine House project is to support the University's commitment to environmental sustainability and this has been a major factor in the design of the building.

Augustine House uses geothermal energy sources to reduce its carbon footprint. This means that the piles which form the foundations of the building not only support the structure, but also provide approximately a quarter of all the energy needed to heat and cool it.
