1. The extracurricular opportunities

The number of opportunities available to you within the Professional Policing degree is incredible, they allow you to expand on the knowledge you gain throughout the course.

There are so many things that you can get involved in as a CCCU Professional Policing student. Some opportunities include:

  • Year 2 trip to Belfast, Northern Ireland, where you can learn more about the uniqueness of Policing in Northern Ireland compared to the rest of the UK, whilst also learning about ‘The Troubles’ era in Northern Irish history.
  • Year 3 trip to the Netherlands, where you will learn more about Policing in the Netherlands, as well as participate in different policing activities such as first response procedures and laser shooting.
  • Participate in mock activities with other University students, where you can experience what it will be like to be a police officer in a real-life scenario and practise how you would act.

2. The range of topics

The course includes a range of different modules throughout the years. Being able to choose modules that suit you gives you an opening to find your preferred area of interests. 

Module examples include:

  • Mental Health and the Criminal Justice System
  • Policing Terrorism and Political Violence in the UK
  • Cybercrime and Digital Policing.

3. The networking opportunities

You’ll get the opportunity to meet police officers and professionals within policing and discuss their experiences within their roles. It really helps you gain insight and receive advice into what a policing career looks like in the real world.

There are also regular careers events, where a range of different employers attend, and you can chat to them and find out more about the job opportunities available. Top employers that have attended previously include Kent Police, Prison Service, Probation Service, British Transport Police, and the Civil Service.

4. The applicability of lessons to your future career

Core Policing is a module given to all students in each year throughout your degree. This module teaches the key information you’ll need for when you enter the police force after University.

The Professional Policing course is accredited and licensed by the College of Policing, the police professional body. As a pre-join Professional Policing Degree, it meets the criteria for one of the three entry routes to the police in England and Wales.

There are also loads of interesting guest lecturers throughout the year, where you'll learn from their real-world experiences.  Examples of previous guest lectures include the Chief Constable from Kent Police and the Police Sergeant from Met Police.

5. The support 

You’ll be allocated your own Personal Academic Tutor who will be there to help you throughout your course. Whether you have a problem with your studies or need help in other areas, they’ll always be there to guide and point you in the right direction.
