A record number of bookings were taken for Open Days at Canterbury Christ Church last month, as thousands of prospective students consider their study options for 2013.
Bookings at the University’s Canterbury, Broadstairs and Medway campuses in October were up by 10% on the previous year, and 18% compared to 2010 at its main campus Open Day in Canterbury.
On Saturday, future students and their families visited the Medway Campus at Chatham’s Maritime Dockyard, with an increase in bookings of almost 25% compared to last year.
Acting Vice-Chancellor of Canterbury Christ Church University, Andrew Ironside, said: “It is encouraging to see, at this early stage in the student recruitment cycle, continued and possibly increased interest in university study.
“The impact of higher education changes is yet to be fully understood, but certainly our focus remains on delivering a top quality student experience for the wide range of students who study here.
“Over the next year we will be closely monitoring how this level of interest ultimately translates into people choosing to come here to study, and that our applications remain buoyant.”
During the Canterbury Open Day, University staff and student ambassadors were able to showcase new facilities for 2012, including St George’s Student Centre in Canterbury city centre, the refurbished St Gregory’s Centre for Music and the newly opened Maxwell Davies building.
Mr Ironside added: “Our investment in new buildings and facilities over the last three years has been substantial. We’ve built a new library and learning resource centre, sports centre, student accommodation and teaching facilities which offer a new and enhanced experience for our students.”
Canterbury Christ Church University is the number one choice for local people looking to study at university in Kent, with 62% choosing Christ Church. It is also based in England and Wales’ second safest city, Canterbury, and this year celebrates 50 years since it first opened its doors.
