Ever wanted to learn more about opera, the agricultural history of the South East, or try your hand at creative writing, photography or archaeology?
Now, thanks to our exciting programme of Community Arts and Education courses at Canterbury Christ Church University adults can broaden their knowledge, career prospects or simply learn something completely new.
Taking place throughout the University’s autumn, spring and summer terms, the courses range from art appreciation to philosophy; the Crusades and Templars to The Book of Changes and the modern mind. Holistic music and dance courses also feature, whilst natural history and social psychology are on offer with a feast of music, myth and Modernism in between.
Wilma Fraser, Principal Lecturer for the Department of Post Compulsory Education and Training, said: “Each course is specially designed to help you explore the subject of your own choice in an inspiring environment. Some of the courses this year follow themes the University has undertaken research in, for example, our family day on Music4Wellbeing builds on the research conducted at the Sidney De Haan Research Centre for Arts and Health which found singing has a positive effect on someone’s health.
“Others include a fresh look at old favourites; our course on The Darker Side of Dickens takes place in the British writer’s 200th anniversary year and will reveal a different Dickens to that revered by the Victorians.”
With the choice of either a short course for a couple of hours each week or a day school at one of the University’s campuses across Kent, the programmes are taught by friendly and expert tutors helping you to make the most out of the course selected. The courses are not assessed so it is a perfect way to learn about something of interest without any undue pressure.
All courses are open to the public. For more information on the courses available and how to book, visit: www.canterbury.ac.uk/community-arts-education, or call 01227 863451 (Monday – Friday 9.30am – 2.30pm).
