Canterbury Christ Church University is delighted to welcome the Puerto Rico Olympic team, arriving at the University in preparation for the Olympic Games.
Hosting over 35 athletes, trainers and medical staff over a two week period (Friday 6 July – Tuesday 24 July 2012), the team will also be present during the Olympic Torch Tour, visiting Canterbury on 19 July.
Competitors from sports, including boxing, athletics and swimming will be using the University’s first class sporting facilities in the run up to the Olympic Games, including the University’s sports and exercise science laboratories. These will be used for pre and post training massages and performance analysis.
The athletes will stay at the University’s campus residences, graded three and four star by VisitEngland*, as well as catered for by the University’s chefs and on-site catering and hospitality team**.
The Puerto Rico team will also train at Body & Mind Leisure Club athletics track, Canterbury High School, Canterbury Boxing Club and Kingsmead Leisure Centre during their London 2012 preparation.
Kent has been recognised as being among the counties with the most nations, excluding London, to sign up Olympic squads.
