Mandeville, the London 2012 Paralympic mascot, made his first visit to Kent last Thursday, surprising pupils from St Nicholas School in Canterbury.

The Canterbury pupils had produced a short animated film, ‘2012 Dreams’, as part of the Creative Campus Initiative. They believed they had been invited to Canterbury Christ Church University’s Sidney Cooper Gallery to view their film on a big screen and to watch the short animation of how the two Olympic mascots, Wenlock and Mandeville, come to life. But after the presentations the pupils were surprised to see that Mandeville had made a special visit to the gallery to take part in a sketch workshop with them.

Over a 100 new community arts projects, such as 2012 Dreams, have been commissioned by the Creative Campus Initiative. Canterbury Christ Church University has been working with some of the community groups and schools taking part to help produce the projects.
