Canterbury Christ Church launches Graduate Internship Scheme
22 June 2010
Canterbury Christ Church University has launched two new schemes to bring graduates and South East Businesses together.
The new Graduate Internship Scheme, which is government funded and runs until September 2010, aims to match graduates with local businesses and their current needs.
Audrey Songhurst, Director of the University’s Centre for Enterprise and Business Development, said: “This is an ideal opportunity for small Kent-based businesses to take advantage of the talent and fresh-thinking of a recent graduate.
“The internship scheme enables graduates to gain valuable experience and skills, whilst allowing companies to benefit from a cost-effective and low-risk introduction to graduate employment.”
South East businesses with fewer than 50 employees can apply for the University’s internship scheme. The University will provide up to £1,500 per graduate for a 13 week internship at a local, small business. Participating businesses will be required to contribute to ensure that graduates are paid to at least the minimum wage.
In addition, the University’s Jobshop helps employers to recruit highly skilled and motivated students and graduates for a range of different posts, either temporary or permanent.
Jobshop is free of charge and has over 1000 graduates and students looking for work. It allows employers to get their vacancies out to thousands of students and can be used alongside, or as a replacement for existing recruitment activities. Whether it’s a part-time job, a graduate position, vacation work or work experience and volunteering, the Jobshop will be able to help source the right person for the job.
The University has a high proportion of local, enthusiastic and dedicated graduates and students looking to start successful careers with South East businesses. Now there’s an easy way to ensure their skills match local business needs.
