Professor Ruane to launch new book Churchill and the Bomb at Waterstones
7 November 2016
Kevin Ruane, Professor of Modern History at Canterbury Christ Church University, will be talking at Waterstones, Rose lane, later this month about his acclaimed new book Churchill and the Bomb.
Kevin’s book explores Winston Churchill’s relationship to nuclear weapons, from the race to beat the Nazis to the secret of the Bomb in World War II through to the Cold War and his emergence, in the 1950s, as a pioneer of mutually-assured destruction. Kevin has recently spoken about the “nuclear Churchill” to the 33rd International Churchill Conference in Washington DC and will also be debating the topic of Churchill and weapons of mass destruction at Churchill College, Cambridge University, later this month. Feature articles on Kevin’s work have appeared in recent issues of History Today and the BBC History magazine, while the leading historian and biographer Andrew Roberts has described Kevin’s book in the October edition of the Literary Review as ‘hugely impressive’ and ‘gripping reading’
Professor Kevin Ruane will be speaking at Waterstones, Rose Lane, Canterbury, on Wednesday, 23 November, 6.30pm. The event is free and open to all.
