Professor Trevor Cooling, Director of the National Institute for Christian Education Research in the Faculty of Education, has recently been elected as the Chair of the Religious Education Council of England and Wales (REC).
The REC is an umbrella charity whose member organisations represent those who are professionally involved in Religious Education as a subject (such as teachers, advisers and lecturers) and religious and non-religious organisations which have an interest in RE (such as the Church of England, The British Humanist Association and The Hindu Council). The REC seeks to promote the teaching of high quality RE and negotiates with the government on matters such as GCSE criteria and the English Baccalaureate.
Trevor said: “I am delighted to have been elected as Chair of the REC. The REC is a marvellous example of a coalition organisation where people of fundamentally different views work together in the pursuit of a shared passion, namely Religious Education in schools."
