Academic contributes to BBC Radio 4's Thought for the Day programme

Robert Beckford, Professor of Theology and Culture in the School of Humanities at Canterbury Christ Church University, has contributed to Thought for the Day on BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

The programme, aired on 30 December, was guest edited by Comedian Lenny Henry, who personally approached Professor Beckford to share his expertise on the 1830 rebellion in Jamaica, known as  The Baptists War  and the  Christmas Rebellion , which coincides with the 184 th anniversary.

Public figures have traditionally been asked to guest edit BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme over the festive period to explore current affairs.

Singer, Tracey Thorn, Former Governor to the Bank of England, Mervyn King, House of Commons Speaker, John Bercow and Former President of the High Court Family Division, Baroness Butler-Sloss, also guest edited the programme between 26 and 31 December.
