Making a Request

Before making a request, check that the item is not held in the university library by using the library catalogue. If a journal is required, check the e-Library, as it may be freely available on-line.

Online requests

Requests can now be made via the Library Catalogue. Once you have logged in, choose the ILL (Inter-Library Loan) option on the menu bar towards the top of the screen and complete either the online Book or Journal request form ensuring the mandatory fields are completed and the Copyright Declaration ticked.

In the case of the requests for journal articles, please include the title, year, volume, part and page numbers of the journal. For book requests, a publication year is vital and it is always helpful if you can state the edition or the name of the publisher. Incomplete/ inaccurate details will delay the process of your request.

Limits

Due to the high cost of inter-library loans, there is a limit to the number of requests that can be made at a subsidised rate.

  • Undergraduate (all courses) and postgraduate (certificate/diploma) students: 4 requests per academic year, increased to 15 requests for final year research projects. There is a cost of £2 per item.
  • Taught postgraduate students (e.g. MA/MSc): 25 requests per academic year. There is a cost of £2 per item.
  • Contracted academic staff and research (MPhil/PhD) students: 50 requests per academic year at no charge.

Please note that only students studying a CCCU course and staff directly employed by CCCU are able to order inter-library loans.

Anyone who reaches their subsidised limit may then order additional items, which will be charged at full cost price. At present, this is usually £6.85 for photocopied articles and £10.80 for loans of books etc.
