All our libraries will be closed on Monday 28th August for the Summer Bank Holiday.

Each library will reopen as usual on Tuesday 29th August. See our opening hours page for details.

28.07.2017 - A new improved way to borrow books and other resources

The Library is simplifying the way in which you can borrow items, in response to feedback from users.

We are delighted that the new Library Management System is allowing us to implement improvements to the library user experience.

• Your loans will be automatically renewed and you will only need to return them if someone else reserves them:

Your loans (except for 24-hour loan items) will be renewed automatically on a rolling basis, in accordance with the loan period of the item. You will only need to return them if someone else reserves them.

24-hour loan items are not renewable and not reservable.

• There will be no more fines unless your loan has been requested by someone else or is a high demand 24 hour loan:

Fine rates have not changed and remain at 20p per day (4-week loan), 50p per day (7-day loan), £1 per day (24 hour loan)

If a reserved item is not returned on time, there will be an immediate suspension on borrowing further items until the reserved item is returned. And if there is an unpaid charge exceeding £10 on your account, there will be an immediate suspension on borrowing further items until the charge is paid.

If you have further questions please visit our webpage about how library loans work. Please let us know what you think about these changes and any other suggestions you may have by contacting us as we are keen to continually improve your library experience.

19.07.2017 - Salomons Library is on the move

Salomons Library will close at Runcie Court, David Salomons Estate, at 6pm on Friday 28th July. The Salomons library will be closed from Monday 31st July – Friday 4th August.

During this time our shelves will be dismantled and our books will be safely packed in boxes. Unfortunately this means we won’t be able to retrieve anything during this time.

We have made sure none of your library items are due back until we reopen, so you can keep all your items on loan until then. If you want to return anything during that week, you can visit one of our other campus libraries or post the books to our new Library:

Salomons Library
Canterbury Christ Church University
1 Meadow Road,
Tunbridge Wells,
Kent,
TN1 2YG.

We aim to re-open on Monday 7th August at 9.00am in our new location:

The building is in the heart of Tunbridge Wells town centre and the library is going to be on the top floor.

If there are any changes to when we re-open we will let you know as soon as possible.

If you have any queries please contact us.

Our email address will stay the same – library.salomons@canterbury.ac.uk

But our phone number is changing to 01227 927126

We look forward to seeing you in our new Library. Thank you for your patience while we carry out the move.

11.07.2017 - Important changes to library system

At the end of July we are changing to a new Library system.

The go-live date is Thursday 27th of July. We need to schedule some maintenance time to migrate from one system to the other. During this period, some of our services will not be available.

Between the 15th and the 27th of July:

  • you will not be able to place hold requests or pay your fines online

Between the 21st and the 27th of July, you will not be able to:

  • borrow or return items via our self-service machines. But you can visit our library service desks during staffed hours, where we will be happy to help you.
  • look up items using the dedicated LibrarySearch catalogues in our libraries. But you can contact us or search online http://libsearch.canterbury.ac.uk.
  • access the Library CCCU App and the Library tile on the Student Portal

Access to our online resources, e-books, journals and databases will be maintained where possible. Please contact us if you experience problems.

We apologize for any inconvenience these changes may cause. To make it easier for you during this migration period, no items, with the exception of inter-library loans, will be due between 15th July and 7th of August.

Please watch out for any updates as we will keep you informed as to how this may affect services for you. And don’t forget to export any references you want to save from your e-Shelf before the 21st July.

Why is the Library system changing?

This system is being introduced in collaboration with our partners at the University of Kent and Greenwich University to provide opportunities to deliver an improved service for all our users and streamline services at the Drill Hall Library where we provide a shared service.

11.07.2017 - RefWorks has been upgraded

It now offers new and improved features for managing your references, such as:

  • a clearer design and layout
  • the ability to store documents along with the reference details
  • drag & drop device for PDFs, that automatically transfers the item details into your reference list
• reference list sharing options for working with colleagues
  • add-on tools to help with citing when writing with Word or Google Docs

The new version is available now. If you want to move to the new RefWorks, we have created a brief guide and RefWorks have made a video tutorial available on YouTube

Links to other guides and video tutorials are available on our Library Guides webpage.

If you would like advice on how RefWorks can assist you with managing your research or how it could be beneficial for your students in organising and improving their referencing please contact us.

05.07.2017 - LibrarySearch is changing

At the end of July, we're changing to a new system for LibrarySearch.

Follow these steps to get ready for the change:

1. Tidy up your library account: return any books you don't need, and pay off any fines you may have.
2. Export your e-Shelf references from LibrarySearch : email them to yourself or import them into your preferred reference management software (information about doing this for RefWorks is available in the RefWorks guides on the Guides page).
3. Keep an eye on our website and Twitter: we'll keep you posted about key dates and developments.

Why is LibrarySearch changing? This is happening as part of a collaborative Library Systems project involving the Universities of Kent and Greenwich, as well as Canterbury Christ Church University.  The new system will allow us to make improvements to the way you borrow books in future, bringing benefits for everyone, as well as a refreshed look for LibrarySearch. More information will be available soon.
