What is 'Find it'?

'Find it' provides direct links from a resource or library catalogue record to full text (where available) and other supporting services, such as the University Bookshop, Inter-Library Loans service and University library catalogues.

How do I use 'Find it'?

When you search in the Library catalogue, e-Library or compatible online resources you will see a 'Find it' icon next to the results.  By clicking on this icon, a window with a menu of available options will be displayedIf full text is available a list of resources containing access to the title will be displayed.  Click on the 'Go' icon next to the appropriate resource to navigate to the full text, please note the information displayed below each resource as this may vary. Alternatively, enter the Year, Volume, Issue and Start Page information for the particular journal article that you wish to view in order to go directly to it, where this option is permitted.

Can I get access to 'Find it' from off-site?

Yes,  you can access 'Find it' from off-site. Please note, however, that you may need to login using your e-Library account details in order to view full text articles from off-site.  Please see the "Do I need a username or password?" section below for information.

What services are available in 'Find it'?

Where available the 'Find it' services offered include
  • Full text

  • Table of contents of the issue of the journal in which the article appears

  • A link to the library catalogues of selected University Libraries

  • A link to the the University's Inter-Library Loans web page

  • A link to the University's Bookshop web site

Why is the 'Find it' button not displayed in my search results?

The resource that you are searching may not yet be available in 'Find it'. New content is regularly being added to 'Find it' and so the button may be displayed at a later date.

If the 'Find it' button is consistently not displaying for numerous resources you may not have javascript enabled on your internet browser.  Please contact the i-zone or Staff IT Service Point for assistance.

Why does the number of options in the 'Find it' menu vary?

If full text is available only this information is displayed initially in the 'Find it' menu, although other options are available under the 'Other Resources' link.  Where full text is unavailable library catalogue links are initially displayed, with additional services available under the 'Other Resources' link, so that you can try to find the resource elsewhere or find an alternative.

Why am I taken to the journal's homepage rather than the article?

'Find it' will get you as close to the article required as it can but some publishers do not allow article-level linking.  On these occasions you may have to access the article via a table of contents.

Why is full text not available?

Access to particular resources and journals may not be available in 'Find-it' as yet, although new entries are being added on an on-going basis.

In some cases, we may not have full text subscriptions to all of the titles stored within the resource.  You can use the 'Find e-journal' option available in e-Library to check whether we have access to a specific journal title.

What if full text is not available?

Full text access is restricted to subscribed content only.  If full text access is unavailable the 'Find it' menu will offer alternative options, including a link to the University's Inter-Library Loans service, so that you can try to obtain the full text elsewhere.

Do I need a username and password?

You may be asked to login in order to access our subscribed resources, especially from off-site.  If so, choose the Athens option and enter your e-library account details if prompted for a username and password.

Your e-library account details are the same as your University computing username and password.  You will receive notification via your University email address when your e-Library account has been activated.

New staff will need to apply for a Library account first by completing either a Staff Library ticket request form or, in the case of Associate Staff, a Associate Personal Details Form.

N.B. Due to licensing restrictions, only Associates who are actively teaching CCCU students will be entitled to e-Library access.  Requestors, e.g. Head of Department or named equivalent, will need to confirm whether Associates are to retain access to their e-Library account prior to each Academic year.

Please contact the i-zone if you are unsure of your computing username and password.
