I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from East Carolina University in North Carolina, USA in 1993. I qualified as a Registered Nurse after passing the state board exam in May of 1993. My work background includes; Paediatrics/neonatal intensive care, Adult nursing, community nursing and management. My work as a travel nurse took me to Hawaii in 2005 where I worked on a medical/surgical/oncology floor and from there I went into teaching nursing in the associate degree nursing programme for Kapiolani Community College (a part of the University of Hawaii higher education system), although I continued to practice in the hospital surgical ward as flexi staff.

Family obligations brought me to England in 2009 and I obtained a position of Senior Staff Nurse in a private hospital in east Kent. I started teaching as a sessional lecturer for Christ Church University on the clinical skills module in October 2009 and became a fulltime lecturer here in August 2010. I teach mostly on the Adult Nursing IPL programme, but also do some lecturing on the CPD modules when needed.

I am currently undertaking the Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching (Higher Education) and will continue on to obtain my masters degree most likely in Higher Education.

I am currently writing a chapter on the differences between the USA and the UK infection control practices to be published in a book of one of my CCCU colleagues.
