I qualified as an RGN in 1985 having trained locally at the William Harvey Hospital. I worked as staff nurse on  medical wards at St Richards Hospital, Chichester initially and developed in skills and experience whilst undertaking a post registration Nursing diploma (Dip N) I returned to my home area to be nearer family and became sister of an acute medical ward.

Upon completion of my Diploma I was encouraged to apply for a post of Clinical Teacher (Registered Practice Educator) working to support student nurses both in the classroom and in the clinical work environment. After having children there followed a period of night duty work where I was Sister in charge of the hospital which allowed me to gain further insight across many different specialist areas retaining a generic interest.

I specialised as a Practice Nurse in the early 1990s and completed an MSc Inter-Professional Health and Community Studies at Canterbury Christ Church University.

I have worked in managerial roles to support Continuing Professional Development, Clinical Governance and Public Health within West Kent PCT. I currently continue to work in General Practice in a Managerial role but have recently returned to lecturing as Senior Lecturer with a special interest in Practice Nursing.
