After qualifying as a registered general nurse at the Medway Hospital in 1984, I worked in Accident and Emergency Nursing, undertaking a post registration course in that speciality at Lewisham Hospital, London in 1986. I continued to work in A&E at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital and Medway Hospital until 1988. I then joined the School of Nursing at Medway as a clinical teacher until 1993 when I became a full time Senior Lecturer at Christ Church.
I teach predominantly on the IPL programme, focusing on clinical science, acute and critically ill patients in short term settings such as day hospitals. I remain very interested in emergency care, particularly advanced practice roles in minor injury and minor illness management, subjects which I teach at post registration level. I link to the A&E departments at QEQM, Medway and Maidstone hospitals.
