My initial nurse education and the first half of my professional career was spent in the RAF undertaking a variety of duties culminating in an Aero-medical Evacuation/Emergency Nurse Practitioner role with squadrons of tactical support helicopters.  Following retirement from the RAF in 1985 I held appointments within Accident and Emergency and Medical Admissions settings in the NHS and in 1991 I moved into full time Healthcare Education.  I hold a BSc in psychology from the Open University, an MA in advanced professional practice (psychosocial aspects of infection control) from the University of Portsmouth and a PGCEA from the University of Surrey.

My primary research interests centre upon the psychosocial aspects of infection control and I have a number of publications within this area.  I have additional research interests in health psychology and person centred development.  I have published further works in both of these areas.  I am an external reviewer for the Journal of Nursing Management, the Journal of Infection Prevention and the American Journal of Infection Control, an external examiner to The University Campus Suffolk and a Fellow of both the Royal Institute of Public Health and the Higher Education Academy.
