I qualified as a Project 2000 nurse in 1997. After qualification I worked on a gastroenterology ward. While there I implemented a Nutritional Screening Tool and Integrated Care Pathway as well as assist in the formation and implementation of an ERCP Integrated Care Pathway. As part of my degree I undertook a piece of research into post liver biopsy care which led to the introduction of a new policy and protocol in this area.
After moving to Cambridge, I got my first taste of renal nursing, working in all areas of nephrology from medical, dialysis unit, and the transplantation ward. While at Addenbrookes I was also given the opportunity to undertake the role of a clinical Support Nurse. The main aim of this role was to provide clinical support to the medical unit.
On moving to Kent, I worked in the Intensive Care Unit, then moving to the Renal Unit as a Pre-Dialysis Nurse Specialist which was a newly created post. Whilst there I became a committee member on the Pre-Dialysis Forum. I still work in the Intensive Care Unit.
Here at the University, I am involved in post registration teaching as well as teaching throughout all years on the pre-registration course. I am currently involved in curriculum development. I have complete my Masters in Interprofessional Health and Social Care, specialising in Renal Nursing. I am currently undertaking my Doctorate in Education
