I qualified as a Registered Nurse in1985 and have worked in elderly care and acute medicine, both as a staff nurse and several ward manager posts. I have always been keen to develop practice, take nursing forward and determined to achieve high standards of nursing care.
I implemented many alternative therapies whilst working in elderly care, and investigated the use of lavender oil to help elderly people sleep for my first degree dissertation.
I have worked as a research nurse, evaluating the efficacy of a Nurse Led Unit, and then worked as a manager on the unit, leading a team of primary nurses, and developing primary nursing practice.
I have 5 years experience as working as a practice placement facilitator, so was very involved with the student experience, teaching, and supporting mentors.
My last post before coming to Christ Church was as clinical manager of a staff bank in an acute trust in London – this gave me a lot of experience in supporting and developing staff, teaching and addressing practice issues.
Becoming a lecturer has been a long term goal of mine, and I am enjoying teaching and working closely with practice, in order to aim for the highest standard of care for patients.
I teach on the Post Registration Mentorship course, and also teach Pre Registration years 1-3, Foundations of Nursing Practice, Assessment and Decision Making, and Leadership and Transition. I also teach on the Collaborative Practice Module, year 2, Clinical Skills and have my own personal students.
I am a Link Lecturer to several wards at QEQM Hospital, and am also the Learning in Practice Lead for Canterbury and Thanet. I am also the Year 3 Lead for Practice
