As a Senior Lecturer in the Department, I am Pathway Director for the Cardiac Care pathway in the BSc (Hons) Clinical Practice and the Acute Adult pathway in the MSc. Advanced Practice. My teaching interests include cardiac care nursing, care of the acutely ill adult, applied physiology and clinical skills, pathophysiology and pharmacology. I am currently studying for a PhD, due for completion Spring 2011, which explores the relationships between illness and treatment beliefs and self-care in people with heart failure.
I trained at London Southbank University in 1994 before working in a Coronary Care Unit in Essex for a number of years. I have an MSc in Interprofessional Health and Community Care, BSc (Hons) in Biological Science, Dip (HE) Nursing, PGCE, and specialist qualifications in coronary care nursing.
I am currently a Fellow of the Higher Education Institute of Learning and Teaching, Editorial Board member for the British Journal of Cardiac Nursing and a reviewer for the Journal of Psychosomatic Research and the Journal of Health Psychology. I was a member of the judging panel for the British Cardiac Nursing Awards, 2008. I have also recently been appointed a member of the Scientific Committee for the RCN Research Society Conference in Harrogate 2011.
