I trained as a medical doctor at the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals (UMDS) and worked in several London teaching hospitals before commencing my academic career.  I have been involved in teaching physical assessment skills, traditionally in the remit of medical practitioners, to nurse practitioners and was commissioned to publish an article in relation to this.  I teach pre and post registration students across a variety of health professions in my interest areas of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology and I am an external examiner for London Southbank University.

I have a desire to make the challenging topics of biological sciences "come to life" for students and have utilised various types of media to enable this.  Furthermore, I organised an excursion for students and other interested parties to the renowned 'Body Worlds' anatomical exhibition thereby enabling a visualisation of "real" anatomy as bodies are preserved by the process of "plastination" (a selection of the exhibition can be seen in the recent James Bond film, 'Casino Royale'.
