Profile

Carrie joined the Faculty in October 2006 having occupied a number of senior academic leadership positions in the UK, Europe and New Zealand. Carrie provides strategic leadership and support for our academic, research and professional business activities.  She represents the department in the wider University and in regional, national and international professional nursing practice and education fora.

Carrie's main areas of interest have been in advancing the quality of clinical practice through practice development, research, education and policy development. She is now actively involved in the collaborative leadership of the  England Centre for Practice Development, hosted by CCCU in partnership with the International Practice Development Collaborative (IPDC). This activity includes commissioned research, consultancy practice and development of workplace cultures and programmes of education that are geared to transform health care services and the experiences of front line staff. 

Her teaching expertise lies in education, management, leadership, research and policy analysis.  She has extensive experience of quality enhancement, academic planning and development of innovative programmes at all levels with a specialist interest in interprofessional teaching and learning.  Her consultancy work  has centred on staff  development initiatives for early career academics and early career researchers, funded research in interprofessional teaching and learning, and a wide range of research capacity building in health and education settings. She has also led the successful implementation of four Nursing Development Units for cancer services, older people's community hospitals and trauma and surgical services in Malta.

Carrie has supervised postgraduate research dissertation students in a range of content and methodology areas and has developed taught doctoral programmes as well as coordinating postgraduate curricula. Her own research interests include practice development and advanced practice, critical and creative thinking, management and leadership and interprofessional teaching and learning.  She has strong collaborative international links with a range of universities in Europe and Australasia.
