Independent and Supplementary Prescribing

The programme aims:

Nurses and Midwives
 
To develop knowledge and skills in nurse prescribing through analysis and exploration. Nurses and Midwives will be competent, safe and effective independent and supplementary nurse prescribers, thereby meeting the standard set by the NMC for entry onto the register as an independent prescriber.

Allied Health Professionals

To develop the knowledge and skills required by an allied health professional to practice as a competent, safe and effective supplementary prescriber, thereby meeting the standards set by the HPC for entry onto the register as supplementary prescribers

The programme requires part-time attendance of 27 taught days and 12 practice days which are delivered over a period of six months. Twenty-five taught days are split into five separate weeks spread throughout the period with the remaining two taught days undertaken separately from the taught weeks.
