Welcome to the Department

The Department of Nursing and Applied Clinical Studies is an  innovative and vibrant dynamic community of expert academic facilitators and practitioners offering programmes of learning in Adult Nursing|, Community Health, Health Visiting, School Nursing| and applied clinical specialisms. We offer opportunities for nurses to plan their career pathway from a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner all the way to a Consultant Practitioner and Director of Nursing in hospital,community and social care settings. 

Our programmes of learning are guided by the needs of the workplace and delivered in a wide range of innovative ways to make the biggest impact on the quality of care provided in health and social care settings. For organisations interested in developing their qualified workforce, we offer a wide range of bespoke accredited and non accredited programmes of learning designed in partnership to meet organisational need.  Key areas of our work currently focus around Dementia Care, Primary Care and Emergency Care, as well as leading from within organisations.

We are committed to:

  •  Raising standards of patient care by producing high quality  graduate nurses
  •  Enhancing experiences of care for clients and their families to ensure they are person centred, safer and informed by best evidence
  • Producing high quality leaders committed to enhancing nursing knowledge, research and scholarship

We work in collaboration with the England Centre for Practice Development which supports a programme of research and innovation at regional, national and international level.
