My profile

I am a practising Speech and Language Therapist, working part time within a unit attached to a mainstream Secondary school and one day per week for CCCU. I lecture on the PG Dipl. in Speech and Language Therapy in areas of interest; phonetics, speech and language disorders and dysfluency. I am also qualified as a Dyslexia Teacher, holding a Post Graduate Diploma in Dyslexia and Literacy from York University.

Research and Knowledge Exchange activities

I am currently undertaking an action research project, based around my client group at the school, with academic support from colleagues at CCCU. I have recently secured funding from the Faculty Planning Award to attend and present at the City Conference in June 2011 'Lost for Words: lost for Life?'. I am also involved in providing CPD study days to local speech and language departments.

Teaching and Subject expertise

I am a registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and a registered practitioner with the Health Professions Council.  I am a member of the British Stammering Association.  I am keen to encourage exchange of ideas in both my work settings, exploring research opportunities where possible.

External activity

Over recent years, I have reviewed a book for a professional magazine (Speech and Language in Practice) and co-written three articles for both the Bulletin (RCSLT) and SL in Practice. I frequently provide training to school staff and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
