Karina graduated from the University of South Australia with a degree in Occupational Therapy in 1999. After graduating she worked as an Inclusion Consultant with young children with disabilities in nursery settings before moving to the UK in 2003. Karina's interest in paediatric occupational therapy continued through her employment as a Senior Occupational Therapist with the NHS in Colchester with children under 5 years, primarily with physical disabilities. In 2004 Karina joined The Dyscovery Centre in South Wales as the Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist. Within this role she was working with children, adolescents and adults with specific learning difficulties including Developmental Coordination Disorder, Dyslexia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Asperger's Syndrome along with developing her research interests. This culminated in her completing her Masters in Education (Special Educational Needs) in 2008. The title of her thesis for this award was: Developmental Coordination Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Joint Hypermobility Syndrome: A survey of Occupational Therapists' knowledge, understanding and management of these conditions.

Karina moved to Canterbury Christ Church University at the end of 2008 and is a Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy. She is also involved with the centre for research into children, families and communities where she is continuing to develop her research interests in the area of occupational therapists working in collaboration with educational specialists in schools. Karina also has a strong academic interest in occupational science and developing peer learning within the undergraduate occupational therapy programme.

Karina is a member of Health Professions Council as a Qualified Occupational Therapist, member of the British Association of Occupational Therapists and a member of the College of Occupational Therapists Specialist Section – Children, Young People and Families.
