I am the Professional Lead for Occupational Therapy. I oversee the Occupational Therapy programmes at the University which include: a traditional three year preregistration degree, Masters in advanced practice (Occupational Therapy); Foundation degree for Occupational therapy assistants; Foundation Degree (Enabling Independence. My clinical background was in neurology, older people and social services, both in the UK and New Zealand.

Research and Knowledge Exchange activities:

My current research involvement with therapist colleagues, parents and education representatives is in Postural care of children in schools. The project has received a NIHR   Return for Patient Benefit grant.

I am also involved in a bid for funding the explore how people with a traumatic brain injury are supported to integrate back into society.

With colleagues, using a knowledge transfer small grant, we recently explored the experience of students on role emerging placements and presented this at the College of Occupational Therapists annual Conference June 2010.

Teaching and Subject expertise:

My teaching relates mostly to people experiencing occupational disruption due to age or physical impairments and societal restrictions. I am also involved in teaching interprofessional modules related to collaborative practice.

I co-lead a CPD and Master module on assessing, managing and reducing falls in older people.

I am currently a member of the faculty Research Ethics committee, and for the past two years have been Chair of the Faculty Staff Development Committee. I led a working group which established the faculty Fitness to Practice policy and procedures.

External activity:

I am an accreditor of undergraduate programmes for the College of Occupational Therapists. I have recently completed externally examining at Cardiff University and am currently external examiner at Sheffield Hallum university.

For several years I was a member of the Ethics Committee at the College of Occupational Therapists and was involved in the 2005 revision of the Code of Ethics.

I am on the editorial board of the International Journal of Therapy and Rehabilitation.

I am a member of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists, the European network of Occupational Therapy Educators and the Council of Occupational Therapy Educators.
